Ebook Design & Formatting (PDF)
General
Q. How do I order an ebook service?
A. To get started, please Request a Quote. We will contact you with a quote and any questions we have about your project.
Q. Do you provide discounts?
A. Yes. We offer quantity based discounts to all clients if they order 3 or more services at the same time (Proofreading and Ebook conversion services are not included).
Q. Do I need to pay for the designs upfront?
We invoice our clients once the project has been completed. For all projects, the client receives the final working files after full payment has been received. Completion of the project is when final design has been approved.
Q. What payment methods do you accept?
Clients have the option to pay via Paypal, Paymate or Bank Transfer (Australian). Details will be provided on your invoice.
Q. Do I have to choose a package deal?
A. No, not at all. As well as offering our package deals, we offer customised ebook design solutions for everyone interested in publishing their ebooks. You can pick and choose what service you need, so contact us today and we can find the best solution for you!
Q. Do you offer a rush service?
A. Rush delivery (supplied within 24-48 hours) is available (dependent upon our current workload) for an additional fee. Please contact us for rush service costs on Ebook Design and Minisites.
Q. What are your payment terms?
Q. Are you PC or Mac-based?
A. We are a PC-based studio and we aim to design ebooks to work in both environments. Normally we do not have any problems, but due to some irregular conflicts between the two, we cannot guarantee viewing the working file on a Mac will look exactly the same as the pdf.
Ebook Design & Formatting (PDF)
Q. What software should I have my ebook designed in?
A. The majority of our clients choose to have their ebook formatted in Microsoft Word so that they can make edits to the document at a later date. Microsoft Word produces a good quality document to be read on screen and for printing at home or the office.
If you do intend to print your document through a professional printer, we recommend the document be formatted in Adobe Indesign CS4. This will ensure the document is high resolution and superior quality. Keep in mind though that if you do not have a copy of Indesign on your computer you will not be able to make edits to the working file.
Please let us know before we start your ebook design, as ebooks and printed books are set up differently.
Q. What format should I send my ebook in?
A. We accept ebook text in Microsoft Word, Publisher or Adobe Indesign.
Please ensure you send us a FINAL copy of your ebook. Have a professional proofreader or colleague read through your ebook before submitting it to us. After you have reviewed the draft, we can make edits to the formatting and make minor text changes.
Major changes to the text copy, moving sections around, complete reformatting of the document etc are not included in our quoted pricing. If the ebook is not submitted to us in final format, charges to reformat the text will be at any additional fee.
Q. My ebook has graphics in it. Should I send them separately?
A. We can work with ebooks that have graphics placed in them, however please do not embed them. If you would like to send them separately you are more than welcome. If you choose this option, please include details on where you would like the graphics placed.
Q. What does ‘sourcing images’ mean?
A. Sourcing images means we will find images suitable for your ebook for you (at depositphotos.com). We can download them for you or you are welcome to find them and let us know the image number.
Q. My ebook contains confidential information. Is it safe with your company?
All documents sent to us are treated as private and confidential. We never disclose ebooks to third parties without the authors written approval. If required, we are always happy to sign an NDA.
Unless otherwise agreed with the client, That’s Creative! may use a low resolution copy of the ebook design as an example in our portfolio and/or promotional material.
Q. Do I get the newly designed working file back?
A. Other designers usually only provide the final pdf copy and charge you for the working file. At That’s Creative!, the working file is supplied to you as part of your final package, and is included in the overall cost.
Q. What about changes to the ebook text?
A. Corrections to errors that have been made by ourselves or small content alterations are included in our pricing. Minor edits of content are acceptable, but, to ensure we can design and format your ebook efficiently, all content must be supplied in FINAL format as delays and additional fees may apply. Please review the document that you receive from us, and provide ALL changes needed.
Q. How do I send you the requested changes?
A. Changes can be included in an email, with clear references to the page number and paragraph of the text you would like to change. For large ebooks, you can also edit directly in the pdf.
Q. How long will my ebook take to design?
A. Generally, it depends on the size of the ebook and our current workload. Before commencement of the ebook design, we will notify you of how quickly we can get the ebook back to you. With the majority of our ebook design projects, we normally get a first draft back to the client within 3-4 working days. A rush service is also available for an extra fee.
Q. Do you format documents other than ebooks?
A. Yes we format all types of business documents including proposals, training guides, reports, whitepapers and more. For more information please visit our Graphic Design website.
Ecover Design
Q. Does your ecover design service include a stock image?
A. Yes, included in the price is one high quality stock image. We source images from depositphotos.com. If you have an existing high quality image you would like to use, please let us know. Any changes to the stock image, or if you need a customised image, will incur an extra fee. Custom illustration designs are not included.
Q. Do I own my ecover?
A. Yes, you own the rights to distribute the ecover. However, you do not own the copyright of the royalty free image downloaded (ie. you cannot claim the image as your own). For more information on royalty free images please visit www.depositphotos.com.
Q. What happens if I do not like the ecover design?
A. Included in our standard pricing is 3 revisions. However, if you are not happy with our initial first draft you may cease using our design services at no charge. Due to the nature of work being time intensive, we cannot offer refunds on completed designs.
Ebook Conversions
Q. What format can I have my ebook converted into?
A. We offer conversions services for the following formats: PDF, ePub, Kindle and Smashwords.
Q. Do you convert ebooks in-house?
A. No. All ebook conversions are handled by a reputable, third-party company. All ebooks are sent to this company for pricing and timeframe for completion. All ebooks are treated private & confidential.
Q. Can I make changes to the ebook text after it has been converted?
A. Once ebooks are converted changes can be made for an additional fee. If you are familiar with XHTML we can send the file to you for editing down the track.
Q. Do you provide discounts?
A. Discounts are provided for bulk conversions.
Q. I have a manuscript but no cover. Can I still have my ebook converted?
A. No. All ebooks require an ecover design. You must provide a cover design or have us design one for you.
Q. I formatted my own ebook but would like you to format it professionally for me. Is professional formatting included in the conversion price?
A. Professional formatting is a separate service from ebook conversions. If you would like your ebook formatted by us you must order this as well as our ebook conversion service. For example, if you have a novel with no images or tables, we would recommend choosing our Basic package.
Q. Where can I sell my ebook?
A. Review “Successfully Navigating the eBook Marketplace” article for information and tips on how and where you can sell your ebook.
